Incredible Years
About the program
The purpose
of the program is to promote positive self-esteem, prevent and reduce
conduct problems, increase social skills competence, and help children
do their best in school and in life.
The Incredible Years Program is a
researched-based comprehensive curriculum to teach children, ages
4-12:
- Positive interaction skills
- Communication skills
- Problem-solving strategies
- Anger management
- Appropriate school behaviors
The program's goal is to promote good
behavior, enhance parent/guardian and peer relations, and prevent
long-term negative consequences of social skills deficits and conduct
problems.
Curriculum Topics are:
- School Rules
- Understanding your own and other
peoples feelings
- Doing your best in school
- Problem solving
- Controlling your anger
- Being friendly and working as a
team member at home and school
- Using friendly talk to communicate
your ideas and feelings
Program Outcomes:
- Reduce conduct problems in children
- Decrease negative behaviors and
noncompliance with parents/guardians at home.
- Decrease peer aggression and disruptive
behaviors in the classroom.
- Promote social, emotional, and
academic competence in children.
- Increase social skills.
- Increase understanding of feelings.
- Increase conflict management skills
and decrease negative attributions.
- Increase academic engagement, school
readiness, and cooperation with teachers.
The Incredible Years Dinosaur School
also teaches parent/guardian problem solving and communication skills,
and offers group support sessions. For
